Harvard has been working as an Interior Designer in New York for twenty
years. As an Architectural Historian & Preservationist, his focus
is always on good design, proper proportions, and quality craftsmanship.
At Ralph Harvard Inc., his fundamental approach is to integrate interior
design with architecture, followed by carefully chosen paint colors and
finishes, comfortable upholstered furniture, and a variety of fabrics,
carpets, and antiques. Ralph's scholarly knowledge of period furniture
enables him to guide clients in building or refining their collections.
Making livable homes for clients who collect fine decorative arts is his
specialty, and in every case these spaces reflect the client's own personal
taste and style.Ralph Harvard Inc., with a staff of five, is located in a brownstone on the Upper East Side. We have an extensive network of resources throughout America and Europe, regularly trade with all of the auction houses, and maintain excellent working relationships with the most prominent dealers and shops. We also offer a full understanding of traditional construction details, techniques, and operations. Our staff is experienced in comprehensive project management with careful attention to detail. Fees: An Initial non-refundable retainer is required to begin work. Retail prices are then charged for all materials, supplies, fabrics, upholstery and reupholstery, furniture, carpets and accessories that are purchased on a client's behalf. Twenty-five percent is added for construction supervision and/or paintwork. Antiques and items at auction purchased by Ralph Harvard Inc., have a 10-25% markup added. Hourly charges are incurred only for extensive architectural work. House Beautiful
said that, "Ralph's style translates into gracious living."
It went on to say, "Ralph has an understanding of how to live well
in a large house, a scholarly knowledge of period styles. [His] rooms
are often glamorous, always comfortable." |

estoration,
preservation and renovation of period buildings are the firm's specialty
and Mr. Harvard is among the top experts on eighteenth century architecture
in the country. Restoration projects are as far afield as an 18th century
farmhouse moved from Virginia to Fishers Island, New York, to the updating
of "Cottage Garden", a late 18th century cottage with Greek
revival overlay in Natchez, Mississippi. Restoration ventures are, however,
centered on the area bordering the Chesapeake Bay. Some projects are full
service where we supply antique or reproduction building materials and
appropriate craftsmen and supervise much of the work. On others, we act
as consultants.
The restoration of a house in Annapolis won preservation awards from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Historic Annapolis Foundation. Mr. Harvard is Chairman of the American Friends of the Georgian Group, a nonprofit concern promoting the preservation and appreciation of Georgian architecture as well as a board member of the Decorative Arts Trust.. |
